Primary Function: The full-time Instructor teaches in an innovative learning environment using the University’s delivery models. The Instructor focuses on delivery of the established program-wide learning objectives and curricula that promote breadth of knowledge and skills to develop students for success in a global, diverse, technological society. The Instructor provides meaningful interactions with students that promote student engagement, that connect student learning to career goals and that direct students to resources and interventions. Essential Functions / Academic Responsibilities

  • Employs teaching methods and approaches that promote active student engagement with course content in residential and online environments.
  • Teaches assigned 100–200 level English courses, including English Composition, in residential and online modalities as needed.
  • Actively engages with students and provides substantive, timely, and constructive feedback on written assignments.
  • Motivates students to participate fully in the educational process and supports achievement of course learning outcomes.
  • Uses available instructional data (such as student feedback and course performance indicators) to improve teaching effectiveness and course design.
  • Actively monitors student academic progress and supports course persistence, particularly with first-year, first-generation, and at-risk students.
  • Participates in curriculum design and continuous quality improvement for residential and online English courses.
  • Practices continuous improvement in teaching strategies and course delivery to support high levels of learning and persistence.
  • Adheres to established University and College policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required training and development activities relevant to University practices and instructional delivery.
  • Demonstrates professional integrity and sound judgment consistent with higher education standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean or University leadership.

 

Skills & Abilities:

 

Education: Master's degree in English or related field.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful postsecondary teaching experience. 
  • Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness in English composition or closely related courses. 
  • Required experience teaching 100-level English Composition courses in residential and/or online formats. 
  • Experience with curriculum design for online and residential course delivery is preferred. 
  • Strong interest in or experience working with first-year, first-generation, and at-risk student populations is highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and student-centered teaching. 
  • Record of contributing to the discipline of English through scholarship and/or creative endeavors is required. 
  • Experience teaching in open-access institutions is a plus. 
  • Technical competence with learning management systems and online instructional tools is preferred.

 

Working Conditions

  • Works with multiple instructional deadlines and manages competing academic priorities.
  • Teaching responsibilities may include residential and online course delivery.
  • Requires availability to support students through multiple communication modes.

 

Pay & Benefits

  • The reasonable starting salary range for this role is $50,000 - $60,000
