The Full-Time Assistant Swim Coach plays a critical role in supporting all aspects of the collegiate swim program. This position is responsible for assisting with daily training, competition preparation, recruiting efforts, and administrative operations. The assistant coach must be highly organized, motivated, and committed to the development of student-athletes both in and out of the pool.

This role requires full engagement with the team, including consistent presence at practices, competitions, and program-related activities, while contributing to a positive, competitive, and team-focused culture.

Job Duties

Coaching & Athlete Development

  • Assist in planning and implementing daily swim practices for all training groups
  • Provide on-deck coaching and instruction at all scheduled practices
  • Attend and actively coach at all competitions (home and away)
  • Deliver technical instruction, race strategy guidance, and performance feedback
  • Support dryland and strength/conditioning programming as needed
  • Foster a positive, competitive, and team-oriented training environment
Program Operations & Administration
  • Assist with coordination of team travel, including transportation, lodging, and meals
  • Support meet operations, including entries, lineups, and communication
  • Help manage program logistics, scheduling, and daily operations
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with compliance-related responsibilities
  • Contribute to planning and execution of team events and team-building activities
Recruiting & Program Growth
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting prospective student-athletes
  • Communicate with recruits and families in accordance with institutional guidelines
  • Support recruiting visits and outreach initiatives
  • Contribute to the growth and long-term development of the swim program
Team Culture & Leadership
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes
  • Uphold and promote program and institutional values
  • Foster accountability, teamwork, and respect within the team
  • Support student-athletesâ?? academic success and overall well-being

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelorâ??s degree
  • Collegiate and/or club coaching or competitive swimming experience
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel
  • Ability to pass a background check
Preferred
  • Previous collegiate coaching experience
  • Experience with recruiting student-athletes
  • Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations
  • Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and/or safety certifications

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for extended periods on pool deck during practices and competitions
  • Ability to move, walk, and remain active for long durations in a humid pool environment
  • Ability to lift, carry, and set up equipment (e.g., lane lines, timing equipment, training tools)
  • Ability to travel for extended periods, including overnight and multi-day trips
