Nebraska Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Ambulatory Care Pharmacist - Medical Oncology to join our nationally recognized program at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. This position supports patients across the continuum of care, with a focus on solid tumor malignancies.

Position Overview

The Ambulatory Care Pharmacist serves as an integral member of the Medical Oncology team, providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care across both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role promotes continuity of care, supporting complex oncology patients.

In this role, the pharmacist serves as a clinical partner within a multidisciplinary care team, helping optimize complex medication regimens, monitor treatment response and toxicity, and support safe transitions between inpatient and outpatient care. The work is highly collaborative and focused on patient education, adherence, and evidence-based decision-making in a high-acuity setting.

Key Responsibilities

Inpatient / Acute Care Contributions

* Participate in multidisciplinary rounding on Medical Oncology inpatient services

* Optimize chemotherapy and supportive care medication therapy

* Provide real-time clinical decision support to providers and care teams

* Support safe medication use and contribute to protocol development and implementation

Ambulatory / Clinic-Based Contributions

* Support Medical Oncology clinics through direct patient care, therapy management, and longitudinal follow-up

* Manage in-basket messages, treatment plans, and therapy coordination

* Provide patient education and counseling for complex oncology regimens

* Facilitate transitions of care between care settings

Shared Responsibilities

* Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams

* Lead and participate in quality improvement, research, and program development initiatives

* Precept pharmacy students, PGY1, and PGY2 residents

* Contribute to the academic mission through teaching and scholarship

This position is eligible for a signing bonus in addition to a competitive, market-based salary commensurate with training and experience.

Shift Details

* First shift position (Monday through Friday 8AM-4:30PM or 8:30AM-5PM) with intermittent weekend accountability

* Full-Time (40 hours/week), Benefits Eligible

Duties:

Lead provision of patient-oriented pharmaceutical care services including creation and maintenance of pharmaceutical care plan, cost-effective therapeutic drug monitoring, drug utilization, guideline development, and drug use evaluation in assigned clinical teams. Provide training and educational support for development of clinical skills in professional staff. Responsible for dissemination of new knowledge, utilization trends and outcomes information related to medication use/pharmaceutical care programs at the organization. Lead efforts to educate other disciplines regarding appropriate use of drug therapy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program OR possess a Bachelor or Master of pharmacy degree with 10 years of experience required.

  • Graduate of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited postgraduate year one residency or an ASHP accredited postgraduate year two residency relevant to practice area OR have 4 years of pharmacist experience in the relevant area of practice OR have pharmacist experience within a Nebraska Medicine ambulatory care clinic required.

  • Demonstrate excellence in clinical areas as displayed by ability to consistently and completely meet and contribute to updating standards of practice required.

  • Maturity and leadership skills required.

  • Licensed in the state of Nebraska or jurisdiction in which pharmacy practice is conducted upon start or transfer required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as deemed appropriate and relevant to practice required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) certification as deemed appropriate and relevant to practice preferred.
